Carpentry Activities set of Four

Table top Carpentry Hammering Activity. The children are given a presentation on how to hold and use the hammer. Once the presentation has been given the children can then hammer the short, fat head nails into a pre-drilled block of wood. The block of wood has approximately 36 holes so a lot of hammering! The activity comes with the table top work tray, which measures approximately 20cm deep x 30cm wide and has a front and back lip to prevent slipping on the table and to contain the activity, a pair of protective goggles, an appropriately sized hammer, 2 blocks of pre-drilled wood (1 spare), a tin of nails plus spare nails.

A table top Carpentry Hand Drill Activity. The children are given a presentation on how to hold and use the drill. Once the presentation has been given the children can then drill holes into a block of wood. These blocks of wood with drill holes can then be used for the Carpentry Hammering or Screwdriver activity. A further extension to this activity is showing the children how to replace the drill bit. The activity comes with the table top work tray, which measures approximately 20cm deep x 30cm wide and has a front and back lip to prevent slipping on the table and to contain the activity, a specially designed drill for children to use which does not have any cogs or gears so no pinched fingers, a tin containing one drill bit, spare drill bits are also given.

A table top Carpentry Sawing Activity. The children are given a presentation on how to use the saw. Once the presentation has been given the children can then mark, saw and sand a piece of soft wood. The activity comes with the table top work tray, which measures approximately 20cm deep x 30cm wide and has a front and back lip to prevent slipping on the table and to contain the activity, a saw, a sawing block for stability which allows for a right or left handed child to use the saw, a pencil to mark the wood, a piece of folded sandpaper with spares and a piece of soft wood (one of many).

Carpentry Screwdriver Activity to use at a table. The children are given a presentation on how to hold and use the screwdriver. Once the presentation has been given the children can then screw the screws into a pre-drilled block of wood. (Ideally prepared by the children using the Carpentry hand drill). This activity can be extended by introducing the children to the flat head screwdriver with screws and a further extension would be to not using pre-drilled wood. The activity comes with the table top work tray, which measures approximately 20cm deep x 30cm wide and has a front and back lip to prevent slipping on the table and to contain the activity, a pair of appropriately sized screwdrivers (1 flathead, 1 cross head), 2 blocks of pre-drilled wood (1 spare), two tins of screws plus spare screws of both sorts.
